In 2008 Liverpool was branded for the European capital of Culture, this is due to its past and the culture of which the city holds. Due to its maritime and musical heritage Liverpool has many tourist attractions which continued to be a draw for tourists during the ECoC award in 2008. The tourism prior to the ECoC year was healthy with a reported 57 million visitors in 2004. The award continued to rise visitor numbers which went from a reported 63 million to 75 million in 2008 with an increase of 6% in hotel occupancy. [1]
