Bingham states that “considerable care is needed in … assessing dietary intake” asserting that “substantial errors” can be introduced into the process. In her paper Bingham reviews the magnitude of errors introduced and the implications in hypothesis testing. This is an important point, worth noting in the context of very large-scale studies where a small error introduced early in a lengthy process can have a much larger impact later in the process due to errors being cyclically repeated, with the error from one cycle feeding into the next. This could contribute to unrepeatable results in latter studies. 1
