鈥淓ARLIER I had written four articles on the heroic role played by women on board the Freedom Flotilla,鈥?columnist and MP Dr Waleed Al-Tabtabaei wrote for Al-Watan Arabic daily Friday. 鈥淭oday in response to some questions that have been raised by various people, I want to shed some light on the idea of the Freedom Flotilla from the very beginning.鈥淎s a matter of fact, the idea of taking part in the Freedom Flotilla is dated back to April 2010. At that time, a delegation representing Turkey鈥檚 Islamic charity 鈥?the organization is known by its Turkish initials IHH 鈥?visited me in my office at the National Assembly and they told that they had sent many overland convoys to the Gaza Strip.鈥淭hey also told me that for the time being their organization was planning to have access to the Gaza Strip via the sea route to avoid suffering they faced in reaching Gaza via the overland route through the Rafah crossing 鈥?the so-called Life Vein Convoy.鈥淗owever, at that time, I doubted the idea would see daylight because my information in this respect showed the State of the Zionist entity had imposed a choking blockade on the Gaza Strip. In spite of the above, I found my duty at that time was to encourage such a step. 鈥淎nyway, a few days before the Freedom Flotilla set sail, I received a copy of the trip program. The launch was to be preceded by a big celebration to be held in Istanbul, but I regretted participation in such a celebration, rather I preferred to go directly to Anatolia, the Port in Turkey from where the Marmara was to set to sail carrying aboard most of the activists.鈥淥n Friday, May 21, 2010 a rally was held in Istanbul and our sister Umm Omar delivered a speech on behalf of Kuwait. She was applauded by everyone who was present. 鈥淥n Monday, May 24, 2010, I arrived in Anatolia via Istanbul where for the first time I met the Kuwaiti delegation that was to take part in the Freedom Flotilla. Upon arrival in Anatolia, we were taken to the Olympic basketball stadium. During a rally, chairman of the IHH B眉lent Yildirim declared the Freedom Flotilla was to leave for the Gaza Strip 鈥榯omorrow鈥? He added the departure was subject to delay pending the arrival of some ships from Greece.鈥淗owever, Thursday evening, May 27, 2010 we stepped onto the Marmara ship where there were either cabins or beds to sleep. In any case, we were determined to sleep on the seats or on the deck of the ship. As the ship moved towards Gaza, we were instructed that we must be ready for Israeli interception by Monday. Among the passengers were the Palestinian Archbishop and a Palestinian cleric. 鈥淎nyway, we shall continue the story of Freedom Flotilla and how it faced the Zionist army through another article.鈥滱lso:鈥淭he initiative that was adopted by a galaxy of human rights activists to send humanitarian aid to our blockaded people in the Gaza Strip, involved very honest and free human beings who were looking forward to be among the participants of the Freedom Flotilla to either get martyred or become victorious during the trip and hand over the humanitarian aid to those who are currently suffering from suffocating siege in the full view of the New World Order which claims it is keen to protect the rights of the human beings as if this is not applicable to the Palestinians,鈥?columnist Mallallah Yusuf Mallallah wrote for Al-Qabas daily Friday.鈥淯nfortunately, the Zionist entity which currently usurps some Arab territories including Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Holy Mosque carried out its brutal terrorist attack and piracy against unarmed and peaceful people 鈥?activists from more than 50 countries 鈥?who were on the board the Freedom Flotilla.鈥淗owever, in this connection, we suggest the Islamic humanitarian action in favor of Gaza Strip should be sponsored by four Arab and Muslim countries including Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkey. If this happened, then things will be placed in its right context to rescue Palestine. This suggestion falls within the responsibility of the Arab world.鈥淢eanwhile, we suggest both the Arab and Muslim states must hasten to severe all political, social and economic ties with the Zionist entity, revoke the Arab peace initiative in response to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin AbdulAziz proposal that the said initiative shall not remain valid for good, prohibit any type of contact with the Zionist entity at any level, incriminate attempts that call for recognition or normalization of ties with the said entity, prevent columnists from writing for the Arab press who praise the Zionist entity, fire writers who may call for the recognition of the Zionist entity and break the Zionist blockade of Gaza Strip.鈥淚n the meantime, I would like to tell the Arab leaders that history and the people will not forgive those who are involved in relinquishing the Al-Aqsa Holy Mosque, because Almighty Allah has blessed this place.鈥濃€淚n the wake of the Justice and Development Party taking power in Turkey in 2002, Turkey has been transformed into a major and professional player in the Middle East region at all local and international political, social and economic levels,鈥?columnist AbdulAziz Al-Kandari wrote for Al-Anba daily Friday.鈥淚n this context, we elucidate that the Justice and Development Party enjoys a clear cut vision that enables it to play a pioneering role in terms of pulling the carpet from under the feet of many countries in the region. This party has started playing a significant role in Arab and Islamic issues, because this party has prepared itself well and as such it has managed to gain the respect of most of the countries in this part of the world.鈥淔or his part, the Godfather of the Justice and Development Party who is also the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey Ahmet Davutoglu, says 鈥楾he world post Sept 11, 2001 witnessed three phases 鈥?the first was a psychological phase represented by war on Afghanistan, second the strategic phase which began with the war on Iraq during which every country scrambled for a place within the New World Order because this phase is likely to last for about 10 to 15 years given the fact this phase will witness many global tensions, and the third represents the establishment of a New World Order during which every great power will try to double its presence in the world until the salient features of the said order are cleared鈥?鈥淲e believe Turkey has fully realized that the United States of America will eventually leave Iraq. Such being the case, Turkey is currently trying to have a stronghold in that country through its intervention and throwing its heavy weight in the Middle East region and this will be represented by weaving a good relationship with various parties in this part of the world.鈥濃€淎s long as Turkish threats against Israel spell nothing more than lip service, which we have seen for the past 18 months, we must deal seriously with these threats,鈥?columnist Fahad Al-Haddari wrote for Arrouiah daily Thursday. 鈥淭he Turkish threats against Israel at the moment amount to curtailing the volume of cooperation with Tel Aviv, but it looks like the Turkish government at the moment doesn鈥檛 plan to entirely cut off its relations with Israel. 鈥淚n other words, surmounting of the tension between Ankara and Tel Aviv, in my opinion was contingent to carrying out a simple condition in the words of the Turkish President Abdullah Gull who was quoted as saying Israel should apologize to Turkey for storming the Freedom Flotilla, compensate the victims, form an investigation committee and lift the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.鈥淚 think if these above conditions are met all will go well particularly since this demand was emphasized by the Turkish Minister of Defence Wajdi Gunole who was quoted as saying following the Israeli storming of the Freedom Flotilla 鈥楾he cooperation between Turkey and Israel in the field of defense will not be stopped鈥? He clarified the joint projects between the two countries are neither dangerous nor big.鈥淢eanwhile, we cite a statement which has been attributed to the Turkish Prime Minister Tayyep Recip Erdogan in January 2010 in which he slammed the Israeli government, and the Zionist press expressed resentment over the said statement and this resulted in the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu responding to Erdogan鈥檚 criticism saying it was neither directed at the Jews nor the Israeli people. He added if any State behaves like Israel, then Turkey will adopt the same attitude.鈥濃€淧oems and stories reflect the reality of societies and events taking place in it. If we read Fahad Al-Askar or Fahad Burisli鈥檚 poems about the country in that period, we will notice that it is no different from today as corruption and hypocrisy existed even then,鈥?columnist Ahmad Abdulmohsin Al-Mulaifi wrote for Annahar daily. 鈥淭he country was then developing because the majority of people were good and serious about building the country. The hypocrites and clowns even then were well-known and were found everywhere. Today, it is the same and we find hypocrisy, lies and deception everywhere and people with such attributes are found in public and private gatherings and their pictures fill newspapers and magazines.鈥淲hile I look at those who ruined the country, misused democracy and destroyed social life through a studied plan using hidden hands that finance them and give them power, I feel it was smart of them to do these things without shame or guilt. The good people have never done anything except criticizing and objecting while the country continues to deteriorate.鈥?鈥淓verybody is talking about the mismanagement of the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) and how it is reflecting on the country,鈥?columnist Ahmad Bin Fahad wrote for Al-Sabah daily.鈥淚t seems we are about to face power cuts and they will not be easy to bear especially in this scorching heat. In fact, this reflects the extent of problems in the ministry and proves that the ministry has not been able to solve pending problems.鈥淲e know Minister Dr Bader Al-Shuraiaan took over a ministry that had several problems and had administrative corruption. But he is still responsible for the period he is holding office and more so, because the problem is more severe than ever before. The minister might be subjected to political questioning due to the ministry鈥檚 extensive campaign that calls on citizens to decrease power consumption as if they are the ones to blame for the electricity problem.鈥?鈥淎n opinion survey conducted a few days ago showed that most British people link Islam with extremism and repression of women. Some feel Muslims don鈥檛 have a positive impact on British society while others link Islam to terrorism. Only a few believe that Islam is based on peace and justice,鈥?columnist Hamad Nayef Al-Anzi wrote for Al-Jarida daily.鈥淭his is not the first survey showing a bad image of Islam since other opinion surveys conducted in Holland, Germany and the United States affirm these results. These polls undoubtedly show that hatred for Islam and Muslims is growing continuously and one day, Muslims will be disregarded on earth if they don鈥檛 try to change the distorted picture.鈥淭he real problem is not only with the extremists, but with kind peaceful Muslims who are lazy and careless. The world only sees the actions of bad Muslims represented in violence, terrorism and hatred for others. There is no contribution or production of peaceful Muslims in any field whether intellectual, artistic, industrial or sports and therefore there is no balance between the work of bad Muslims and peaceful ones. Certainly, our laziness, selfishness and low productivity support the poor image of Islam and Muslims.鈥濃€淲e have been repeatedly warning about the dire electricity situation in the country, but nobody paid heed. And suddenly, we find ourselves amidst a severe electricity crisis that has affected all governorates and areas and even the ministries and government authorities,鈥?columnist Abdulrahman Al-Awad wrote for Freedom Journal.鈥淓veryone knew we were heading towards a crisis, but nobody from the National Assembly took any step to address the issue as they were busy in other 鈥榗ritical鈥?issues like the draft law allowing military men grow their beards. 鈥淎lso, the government was more occupied in answering the never-ending questions of MPs. These days, the aggravation blocs鈥?interpellations have become like Ramadan puzzles.鈥?鈥淚 feel the government lives in one valley and the people in another. Otherwise, how do you explain that a small country like Kuwait which is considered one of the richest in the world faces power cuts in 2010?鈥?columnist, academician and political activist Dr Abdullah A. Alowaisi wrote for Alam Al-Youm daily. 鈥淭his week, residents of many areas in Kuwait witnessed long power cuts. The extreme heat makes power cuts unbearable and moreover, it is exam time for students. 鈥淲e wonder what action the government will take now. Will it once again try to obtain power from Qatar or will it make unsuccessful attempts like the Emergency 2007 project?鈥?鈥淥ver the past few years, the discussions among lawmakers in the National Assembly haven鈥檛 been very civil,鈥?columnist Mishal Bushahri wrote for Al-Dar daily. 鈥淭he level of language has deteriorated and some lawmakers are purposely using words that were never heard in Abdullah Al-Salem Hall until now. It seems they don鈥檛 know that the representatives of the nation are not supposed to utter certain kind of words in the Parliament. 鈥淚t is true the Constitution granted lawmakers the freedom to criticize policies and practices, but they are to be done in a proper manner without hurting or disrespecting others.鈥?鈥淚s it reasonable that citizens of a rich country like Kuwait experience power rationing, while officials at the Electricity and Water Ministry ascribe the reasons to high consumption?鈥?Dr Khalid Ayed Al-Jenfawi wrote for Al-Seyassah daily. 鈥淲e are supposed to face the problem head-on, in view of the problem being there for several years. However, the government is not oblivious of the implications of neglect of the power crisis. Electricity is the live wire of activities in Kuwait and this product is probably much sought, far above other necessities of life, particularly during the summer season. 鈥淓verybody in Kuwait鈥?including families, individual Kuwaitis and expatriates and everybody that lives on this beautiful land, feels impact of the power failure. If there is power failure when the temperature rises up to 50 Celsius degrees, it will lead to serious psychological, social and health disasters, so we should expedite actions on solving this problem鈥?鈥淚t is very cynical that Kuwaitis must co-exist with the continuous power crisis each year, irrespective of the country鈥檚 financial system being full of revenue from oil,鈥?Jassem Bodai wrote for Al-Rai daily. 鈥淯nfortunately, the electricity is cut off, even if the power has been preserved or not, while we are compelled to bear the surging heat exceeding 50 degrees Celsius. Aside from this, our political, intellectual, socio-cultural and scientific life has been devastated, and overwhelmed with darkness. 鈥淚 urge officials at the various government authorities to look for irregularities with both the old and new files.
